Sterett Crane & Rigging’s St. Louis branch had a mobile crane rental (service) job located in Illinois this past week. We used our Liebherr LTM1220-5.2 to pick a mill and motor out of a pit so it could be replaced by new machinery. The mill and motor weighed a combined total of over 200k lbs.! After we pulled the mill and motor out of the pit the plant used their overhead crane to load the pieces on a trailer for removal from the plant. This job took a lot of planning and coordination due to the extremely narrow path we had to take to be positioned to make the lift. There was a sharp 90 degree turn right inside the building that required the help of multiple spotters to signal the operator as he slowly maneuvered the crane around it and crane through the building. We had less than a foot of clearance on each side and overhead. The customer was very pleased Sterett was able to accomplish what other companies said was impossible. We turned a 2-day job into a 1-day job and the job went as planned. By getting our 275-ton hydraulic crane inside the building we saved them countless hours of labor and multiple machine rentals. This was accomplished due in part to our Team taking the time to understand the customer’s needs and working together with the customer’s Team to figure out the most efficient and safest way to complete the lift. There is nothing more satisfying than contributing to a team effort.
